The four tanks that Jose Sifontes designed are housed at the Marion County Extension Office off Northeast Jacksonville Road. Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson says the purpose of the grant Sifontes received was to strenghten the role of Florida farms, allowing them to produce both food and fuel.
The very cold winter weather in Florida meant that 4500 sea turtles had to be rescued from Florida cold weather in January. 80 % of them were saved. Officials say manatee carcasses continue to appear, bringing the number of deaths in 2010 to 200 so far. Florida Fish and Wildlife is asking you to help by purchasing a specialty license plate or decal. Those funds have been an important resource in caring for the state's wildlife during the cold snap.

Angel Flinn with Gentle World writes
"The report from the United Nations titled 'Livestock's Long Shadow' states that livestock production is one of the major causes of the world's most pressing environmental problems, including global warming, land degradation, air and water pollution and loss of diversity'. Animal production generates almost one- fifth of the world's greenhouse gases and animal agriculture requires enormous amounts of water and energy leading to the destruction of vast tracts of rainforests. Also almost three-quarters of all water quality problems in U.S. river and streams can be tied to agriculture says the EPA. Making the transition to a meat-free diet is the single most important investment an individual can make in the future of our planet and our civilization."
